Yesteryears Dancers, under the direction of Mlle. Irene Ujda, has become a regular feature at many Southland historical institutions and presentations. We are continually expanding our repertoire to include the social dances of different eras of the past (choreographed by Mlle. Irene). In addition we offer solo work by some of our members. Some of our selections include "Mission Minuet," "Early California Mazurka," a jarabe of Old California, clogging routines suitable for Gold Rush or Civil War venues, as well as others depending on the venue. We also offer our ever popular audience participation segment so that the viewing public can get a real taste of dance history.

Here we are ready for the old west of 1880
Our Director and Dance Historian
Irene Ujda, Director of Yesteryears Dancers, has had a lifetime interest in dance, and began her vintage dance career in 1983, partnering with Professor Desmond Strobel in "North & South", "Glory", and "Geronimo". She has had extensive background in the dances of the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. Mlle. Irene has studied with renowned European and American dance scholars. Her expertise includes the dances of Early California. This specialized interest was enhanced by consultation with the late Albert S. Pill, expert on California dances of the Spanish and Mexican periods of the 19th century. Most recently she spent time at the prestigious Dolmetsch Historical Dance Institute in England, focusing on baroque dance. Mlle. Irene's choreographies are varied, vibrant, and authentic.

Note: we regret the passing of our dear Mentor Professor Desmond on Sept. 27, 2003, there will be a Memorial Service in Hollywood on Nov. 2, 2003, please rsvp.
